Do Pokémon card packs differ in card count and price?

Summary

They do. In Japan, the Inferno X expansion pack launched at 5 cards for ¥180, the Pokémon Card 151 enhanced expansion pack at 7 cards for ¥290, and the Terastal Festival ex high-class pack at 10 cards for ¥550. In English, some expansions such as Crown Zenith never sold packs on their own, so a loose pack's origin depends on the product it came out of.

The label "expansion pack" does not fix the format. 30th CELEBRATION is called an expansion pack yet has six cards at ¥360. Per-card prices only line up when you compare packs of the same type.

English packs by product

A Destined Rivals pack holds 10 cards and one Basic Energy, and the set was sold in 36-pack boxes and 6-pack Booster Bundles. Crown Zenith, released January 20, 2023, is different. Its official Elite Trainer Box page states that packs were not sold separately for the expansion, and that ETB held 10 of them.

Packs also turn up in products outside the ETB. The Pokémon Day 2026 Collection, released January 30, 2026, pairs a stamped Pikachu promo and a coin with three packs from different expansions.
