How is a Pokémon booster box different from an Elite Trainer Box or a Booster Bundle?

Summary

The difference is how many packs you get and what comes with them. For the English expansion Destined Rivals, the Booster Display Box held 36 packs, the Elite Trainer Box (ETB) held 9 packs plus a promo card and play accessories, and the Booster Bundle held 6 packs and nothing else. Not every expansion gets a booster box, and ETB contents shift from set to set and between retail and Pokémon Center editions.

Four products from one expansion

Destined Rivals launched May 30, 2025. Pokémon's product showcase listed these four.

The Build & Battle Box shows up first at local game stores during Prerelease events and reaches other stores on release day.

Some expansions skip the booster box

Ascended Heroes arrived on January 30, 2026, and its official product showcase has no Booster Display Box at all. Packs come instead through an ETB (9 packs), a Pokémon Center ETB (11 packs), a Booster Bundle (6 packs, April 24, 2026), Mini Tins (2 packs each), and poster collections (10 packs), among others.

ETBs are not uniform either. The Ascended Heroes ETB includes 40 Energy cards against 45 in Destined Rivals. Its Pokémon Center edition adds two packs and carries two N's Zekrom promos instead of one, one of them stamped with the Pokémon Center logo.

Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic holds decks, not packs

Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic is a folding game board with a toolbox of counters and markers, plus three prebuilt decks led by Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. It contains no booster packs, and apart from the Basic Energy cards its deck cards are not legal in tournaments.
