How do you get from a Pokémon's name to the exact Japanese single you want?

Summary

Type the name into Japan's official card search, then open each result's detail page, which shows the product, collection number, rarity mark, and illustrator. The product name alone is often not enough, since one set can hold the same Pokémon under several numbers.

Mew ex and Umbreon VMAX as examples

Searching "ミュウex" (Mew ex) returned 13 cards on September 23, 2026, spread across products including 30th CELEBRATION, Pokémon Card 151, and Shiny Treasure ex.

Narrowing to Shiny Treasure ex (released December 1, 2023; 10 cards per pack; ¥550) still leaves three Mew ex cards. 076 / 190 is RR and 327 / 190 is SSR, both illustrated by aky CG Works. 347 / 190 is SAR, illustrated by USGMEN. When a listing photo does not show the number, the artwork and the illustrator credit on the detail page are what separate them.

Sometimes the name and product are enough. Umbreon VMAX returns four cards, and only one of them, 048 / 069 (RRR), is in Eevee Heroes (released May 28, 2021; 5 cards per pack; ¥165). The other three are 101 / 184 (RRR) and 245 / 184 (CSR) from VMAX Climax and 256 / 414 from Start Deck 100. All four carry the same ability, Dark Signal, and the same attack text.
