Why are there several Japanese Charizard ex cards with the same name?

Summary

Because one Japanese expansion often prints Charizard ex several times at different rarities. The 2023 set 黒炎の支配者 has four Charizard ex cards, each with its own collection number. A listing is pinned to one card only when the expansion mark, the number, and the rarity mark all match, not the name alone.

Four Charizard ex cards in one 2023 set

The expansion 黒炎の支配者 (expansion mark SV3, roughly "Ruler of the Black Flame") came out in Japan on July 28, 2023, at ¥180 for a 5-card pack. Its headline card is a Darkness Tera Charizard ex, a Darkness-type Pokémon whose attacks use Fire Energy. The official Japanese card search lists four versions from this set:

Other sets follow the same pattern. Japanese Pokémon Card 151 has Charizard ex at 006, 185, and 201 (RR, SR, SAR), and Shiny Treasure ex, a set built around shiny Pokémon, has it at 115, 331, and 349 (RR, SSR, SAR).

"Mega" Charizard depends on the era

Inferno X, released September 26, 2025, includes Mega Charizard X ex at 013 / 080, and the card search also lists a Mega Charizard Y ex. XY-era cards are a separate group: their name is Charizard-EX with a Mega Evolution symbol in front, and the search results label them "メガリザードンEX" (Mega Charizard EX).

A search for "リザードン" (Charizard) returned 95 cards on September 23, 2026, including V, VMAX, VSTAR, and GX cards, Radiant Charizard, tag cards such as Reshiram & Charizard-GX, and promos marked S-P or XYP.
