How does a turn play out in the ONE PIECE Card Game?
Summary
Every turn runs through five phases: Refresh, Draw, DON!!, Main, and End. You draw a card, add two DON!! cards, and then play cards and attack during your Main Phase. The player going first skips the draw and adds only one DON!! on the first turn, and neither player can attack on their first turn.
Setting up
Shuffle your deck, put your Leader face-up, and play rock-paper-scissors; the winner picks whether to go first. Each player draws five cards and may send the whole hand back, reshuffle, and draw five again, once. Then deal cards from the top of your deck, face-down and unseen, into your Life area until you have as many as your Leader's Life value.
The five phases
Refresh Phase: set all your rested cards active and return attached DON!! cards to your cost area.
Draw Phase: draw one card, except on the first player's first turn.
DON!! Phase: place two DON!! cards from your DON!! deck in your cost area, or one on the first player's first turn.
Main Phase: play cards, activate effects, give DON!! cards, and battle, in any order and as often as you can.
End Phase: "end of your turn" effects resolve and play passes to your opponent.
You pay a card's cost by resting that many active DON!! cards. You can have five Characters on the field; to play a sixth, trash one already there. Each DON!! card attached to your Leader or a Character gives it 1000 power during your turn.
From attack to damage
To attack, rest your Leader or a Character and pick your opponent's Leader or one of their rested Characters. The defender can switch the attack to a Character with Blocker, then trash Character cards from hand for their Counter value or play Counter Events. The attacker wins if its power is equal to or higher than the target's. A losing Character is K.O.'d, and a Leader takes one damage: its owner adds the top Life card to their hand, or reveals it and uses its Trigger instead. You lose when your Leader takes damage with no Life cards left, or when your deck runs out.
