How do you play Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel?

Summary

Rush Duel is a faster Yu-Gi-Oh! card game from KONAMI. You draw until you hold five cards at the start of every turn, and you can Normal Summon as many monsters as you like. Decks run 40 to 60 cards and each player starts at 8,000 Life Points. The physical cards carry numbers beginning with RD/ and have their own database, separate from the standard OCG.

The rules on the official how-to page

Each player draws four cards to start. After that, every draw brings your hand up to five, or adds a single card if you already hold five or more, and there is no hand limit. A deck holds 40 to 60 cards with up to three copies of any name, plus an Extra Deck of up to 15, which can also be empty.

Normal Summons are unlimited. A Level 5 or 6 monster needs one Tribute and a Level 7 or higher needs two. With three monsters already on your field, you cannot Normal Summon even a Level 4 or lower. The player going first skips the Battle Phase on turn one, and a deck may hold only one Legend card each among monsters, spells, and traps. You win by taking your opponent from 8,000 Life Points to zero.

Cards, products, and the Duel Links version

The first products were starter decks released in Japan on April 4, 2020. The first booster followed on April 11, 2020, at ¥165 a pack, and a Level 3 Normal Monster from that pack is numbered RD/KP01-JP006. The Rush Duel database covers card search, card lists by product, deck search, official Q&A, and the limit regulation list of restricted cards.

KONAMI's Duelist Card Protector sleeves fit both Rush Duel and OCG cards, sized for cards up to 59 mm × 86 mm. In September 2023, Rush Duel became a playable format in the Yu-Gi-Oh! DUEL LINKS app, using Rush Duel cards only.
