Weiss Schwarz

How do you win a game of Weiss Schwarz?

Published · By the Cards from Japan editors

Summary

You win by pushing your opponent to level 4. Both players start at level 0, damage piles up as face-up cards in the clock, and every seventh clock card raises your level by one. When a fourth card lands in your level area, you lose.

Damage, clock, and level

The official For Beginners page describes the clock this way: the number of face-up cards there is the damage you have taken, and you level up when a seventh card is placed. Characters deal damage through soul, where each icon is one point. Your stage has five positions for characters, and cards come in four colors, yellow, green, red, and blue. Only three card types exist, character, event, and climax.

Building a deck

A deck is exactly 50 cards. The Japanese rules page caps any single card name at four copies, and both the English and Japanese pages cap climax cards at eight.

FormatWhat you can use
Neo-StandardCards from one title only; the main format at official events
StandardEvery officially released card
SideOnly Weiß side cards or only Schwarz side cards

The quickest way to start is a trial deck. The newest Japanese one, Trial Deck Stella Sora (October 16, 2026), is a 50-card deck for ¥1,650 with a quick manual and a playmat, and two of its 50 cards are always TDP or TDSP parallel cards.
